Endodontist Near You
When you suffer from an advanced stage of tooth disease and a non-surgical root canal is not adequate to save your tooth, your dentist will refer you to an endodontist. Endodontists specialize in problems that relate to the interior of the tooth. They focus on diagnosing tooth pain and performing a surgical root canal to save your tooth.
Why Do I Need A Surgical Root Canal?
Your dentist will perform a root canal by removing the infected pulp from the interior of the tooth, cleaning the area, and then sealing the canal with a filling. While this usually resolves the infection, there are situations where the infection spreads to the bony area around the end of the tooth. In this case, your dentist will refer you to an endodontist for treatment.
What Is The Procedure For a Surgical Root Canal?
You will be given a local anesthetic to numb the area to make you comfortable during the procedure. The endodontist will then cut into the gum tissue near the infected tooth and examine the area around the bone. If any infected or inflamed tissue is detected, they will remove it and place a filling to seal the canal, after which they will stitch up the gum.
