Text Extraction Near You

If you have excessive tooth decay, your dentist may need to perform a tooth extraction. Wisdom tooth removal is also common amongst teenagers when new teeth form badly or cause crowding in the mouth. In both cases, the removal procedure is relatively quick and easy. It is performed under a local anesthetic to ease the pain.

Tooth Extraction Process

Your dentist will first administer a local anesthetic to numb the area around the extraction site. They will then loosen the tooth from the gum socket and use forceps to remove it. This type of procedure is known as a simple extraction and is the most common. In cases where the tooth has not fully erupted or if the tooth has been broken under the gum line, a surgical extraction must be performed instead.

What To Do After the Extraction

After the procedure, your dentist will recommend keeping gauze on the extraction point for a few hours. Bite down on the gauze pad to reduce the bleeding. You can also manage the pain using pain medication as recommended by your dentist. It is best to eat only soft foods for the first few days until the area heals. You also want to limit physical activity for 10 to 14 days after the procedure, as excessive physical activity may cause bleeding.
